Leeds United transfer news: Whites backed for £15m striker raid, EPL defender on radar

Leeds United have been urged to make a move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi in the summer transfer window.

The Belgian striker has struggled for game time this season, and has started just twice in the Premier League all campaign.

With that in mind, Origi has emerged as a reported target for several clubs in recent days.

El Gol Digital credit Newcastle United with an interest, while Calcio Mercato suggest that Inter Milan are keen.

Either way, it is understood that Liverpool are open to him leaving, and could ask for as little as £15 million to secure his services.

If that is indeed the case, then Whelan is adamant that Leeds must pounce.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think we’ve got to keep our options open. Divock Origi for £12-15m, would you turn your nose up at that? No, you wouldn’t.

“He can play a number of roles, left side, right side, through the middle. You’ve got to look at these things seriously. It’s not a lot of money. It’s so cheap. You could maybe go out and get two strikers if he’s available at that price.

“We need options, especially attacking ones. We know Bielsa likes players who can be versatile and we know Origi is that.

"You’re not breaking the bank and you know what you’re getting. He knows the Premier League.

“He’s a good age and we play a style of football that will suit him because it’s similar to Liverpool’s.”

Origi signed for the Reds in 2014, and has gone on to score 35 goals in 157 outings since.

Elsewhere, the Manchester Evening News suggest that Leeds are one of a number of clubs keeping tabs on Manchester City youngster Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The 19-year-old is currently out on loan at Blackburn Rovers, and has made 11 appearances since arriving at the end of the January transfer window.

It would appear that his performances are catching the eye too, with local reports in the north west suggesting that the Whites are monitoring his progress, along with Brighton and Brentford.

The teenager is an England youth international, and has eight senior outings to his name for City already.
