Maiden England senior start for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips

LEEDS UNITED midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been handed a maiden international start for England in Tuesday night's Nations League encounter against Denmark in Copenhagen's Telia Parken Stadium.

The 24-year-old lines up for the Three Lions for the first time alongside Wolves captain Conor Coady - with the former Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town player handed his senior bow for Gareth Southgate's side at the age of 27.

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold replaces Yorkshire-born Kyle Walker, who is suspended, with Phillips and Coady replacing Phil Foden - who was sent home after a quarantine breach - and James Ward-Prowse from the side who laboured to a 1-0 win in Iceland on Saturday.

Leeds-born Phillips has pledged to give his first England shirt to head coach Marcelo Bielsa after the Leeds boss handed his midfielder a Newell’s Old Boys jersey to commemorate his international call-up.

Leicester City keeper and former Leeds number one Kasper Schmeichel captains Denmark this evening, with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen also starting.

Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen and former Middlesbrough forward Martin Braithwaite also start.
