Marcelo Bielsa says Leeds United 'missed 15 goals' in 1-1 draw with Luton Town

Marcelo Bielsa admitted it was frustrating to take after his side “created 15 goals” but only scored one against Luton Town.

Leeds United dominated against the relegation-threatened Hatters but having given them a one-goal headstart through substitute Harry Connick, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

They have taken four points from their first three matches after the coronavirus pause.

“We lost two points which were very difficult to take,” he lamented after Stuart Dallas's goal rescued a point.

“We missed 15 goals but football is like that, it can happen. It is a pity for us because we lost five points (since the lockdown) that weren't difficult to win.”

There was a suggestion that Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts might have put two bad misses down to the floodlights but if that was the case, Bielsa was not buying it.

“Honestly, I don't know, but maybe,” he said. “It was strange that they couldn't connect with those crosses.

“Everybody knows in football you are more likely to score those chances than miss them.”

Bielsa was also unable to shed light on the future of Jean-Kevin Augustin, whose loan from RB Leipzig ends tonight.

The striker was again not involved in the matchday squad.

“At the moment I don't have anything to say,” said Bielsa. “He's been training so far without any problems.”

Liam Cooper was substituted after 12 minutes with what his coach called “a very painful kick to the side, but not a very heavy injury.”

Leeds fielded an unchanged side for the third game running, meaning Pablo Hernandez was again limited to a cameo. Having played 45 minutes against Fulham on Saturday, he came on for half-an-hour against the relegation-threatened Hatters.

“We are going to analyse this,” said Bielsa when asked if he expected the Spaniard to be capable of playing 90 minutes any time soon. “Today he played less than against Fulham. We'll see how he feels between now and Saturday, and after that we'll decide.”
