Football clubs up and down the country were issued a stark warning on Tuesday that games could be played without fans for up to six month. A staged reintroduction of fans has been postponed by the UK Government following new Covid-19 restrictions.

Even in the Premier League, behind closed door games will have a sizeable impact on finances. Consulting the latest accounts posted clubs (2018/19), the 20 top-flight teams could lose out on up to £700million on matchday income if fans are not back in the stadium this season.
