Huddersfield all but ended Leeds United’s Championship play-off hopes by coming from behind to triumph with a swagger.

Stuart Dallas gave the hosts the lead after Nahki Wells had seen an 11th-minute penalty saved by Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

Terriers captain Mark Hudson levelled from Jamie Paterson’s corner.

Harry Bunn, Karim Matmour and Wells scored in eight second-half minutes to seal a comfortable win for Town.

Leeds continued their impressive form as they cruised past Town to earn a third win in four games under caretaker manager Neil Redfearn - ahead of the impending arrival of Darko Milanic.

The Whites led 2-0 at the break through Rudy Austin’s strike and Mirco Antenucci’s close-range shot.

Souleymane Doukara made it three from Austin’s pass after the re-start.

Leeds eased to the win despite having Gaetano Berardi sent off. The defender saw red for a second yellow card with 17 minutes remaining.

Ross McCormack scored a hat-trick as Leeds thrashed Huddersfield amid confusion over who was United’s manager - to seal a crazy 24 hours at Elland Road.

Manager Brian McDermott was reportedly sacked the previous night, but the club - in the midst of a majority takeover attempt from Massimo Cellino - stressed he remained in charge.

McCormack scored twice from close range and also converted Cameron Stewart’s cross to complete his treble for Leeds under the temporary command of assistant manager Nigel Gibbs, who took control of first-team affairs with McDermott’s future unclear.

Jimmy Kebe finished from McCormack’s pass and Alex Mowatt chipped in a fifth goal after Daniel Ward had given the visitors the lead with a low strike.

Huddersfield twice came from behind to claim a deserved point at League One leaders Leeds.

Robert Snodgrass put United ahead after two minutes, slotting home following an error from Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

Lee Novak equalised for the visitors, heading home following Peter Clarke’s deflected shot, but substitute Max Gradel’s drive restored Leeds’ lead.

Jordan Rhodes’s header pulled Town level again though and Anthony Pilkington hit the bar late on.

Michael Collins scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner to give Huddersfield victory at Elland Road - their first since Boxing Day 1983.

Slack defending from Town after only four minutes allowed Robert Snodgrass to poke home Luciano Becchio’s cross.

Yet just after half-time Leeds goalkeeper Casper Ankergren failed to deal with Keigan Parker’s cross and Joe Skarz finished from close range to equalise.

And deep into stoppage-time, Collins turned home Danny Cadamarteri’s cross.

Jermaine Beckford scored twice as Leeds boosted their promotion challenge by routing Huddersfield in their first league meeting at Elland Road in almost 21 years.

A crowd of 32,501 - the highest at third-tier level since 1979 - saw Leeds go ahead against the run of play through Jonathan Douglas’s long-range effort.

Beckford slid in for his first on 49 minutes before popping in a rebound with 21 minutes to go.

Substitute Tore Andre Flo completed the scoring with a tap-in.
