ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Steve Evans caused a stir at Elland Road when he fulfilled his commitment to come to Leeds United in a sombrero and beach wear after his Millers side clinched safety in the week.
The Scot bowed to public opinion and agreed to don the attire after promising supporters he would do just that in the wake of the Millers’ 2-1 win over Reading at the New York Stadium in midweek which secured their Championship status.
On the demand for him from fans to don the beach wear, Evans said: It’s been absolutely fantastic,” he added. “It’s not being disrespectful to (already relegated) Wigan or Millwall, I know what those managers and their supporters stand for.
“But I did promise Millers fans that if we stayed up I would wear my summer gear for the derby at Leeds.
“Thanks to everyone who has tweeted in at Sky Sports, it’s been a fantastic campaign, and I’m told (Watford striker) Troy Deeney, the best player in the Championship, was tweeting and it got a record number of retweets for him.”
Here’s a short video of his arrival.
