Leeds Utd v Newcastle: Garry Monk sure Elland Road crowds will swell to capacity regularly if form continues

United’s first full house for almost six years, since the club faced Arsenal in an FA Cup third-round replay in January 2011, sees the Championship’s two form sides take the field for their first league meeting in West Yorkshire since August 2003.

While leaders Newcastle, seeking their ninth successive victory, are in outstanding form, Leeds are in fine order themselves having won their last four matches in all competitions, while being unbeaten on home soil in seven games.

With a palpable feel-good factor growing at Leeds, Monk sees no reason why tomorrow’s occasion cannot become much more commonplace if his side continue to evolve and improve, with momentum rising.

Monk, who has a major injury doubt surrounding Pablo Hernandez, although midfield anchor Eunan O’Kane is fit, said: “They (Leeds’s fans) have not seen this type of atmosphere for a long time and I know with the Leeds fans that this is what they look for and this is what they want.

“It also shows that the way we are working that we are doing something right and the players are doing something right, and long may it continue.

“But it is hard work and it is ups and downs as well and we will suffer ups and downs throughout the rest of the season.

“As long as we all stick together and we all fight in the right direction, then there will be more occasions in terms of (sell-out) numbers in the ground in the future.”
