Lee’s return to scoring form wins Town manager’s praise

The 32-year-old endured a difficult start to his career at the Galpharm Stadium with it taking 25 games to break his scoring duck following an August move from Crystal Palace.

Since ending that barren run with a goal at Arsenal, Lee has bagged three goals in four outings and Clark believes there is more to come from his striker. He said: “I am delighted for Alan because I always knew he was making a contribution, even if the goals weren’t coming.

“He was doing a lot of things that were helping the other players immensely. Now, he is on a good run.

“In the last four or five games, he has been outstanding. He has got three goals in that period and I am delighted for him because he is a good guy who does a lot of unseen work for the team.”

Lee’s second and third goals in a Town shirt saw Clark’s men come within a whisker of staging one of the comebacks of the season against Carlisle United on Tuesday night.

Trailing 4-0 from the first leg of their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area final, the Terriers hit back to reduce the arrears to just one goal with nine minutes remaining.

The equaliser would not come, however, despite Huddersfield laying siege to the Cumbrians’ goal with both Lee and Peter Clarke going close to sending the tie to penalties.

It meant Town missed out on a first trip to the new Wembley but Clark was, nevertheless, delighted with his side. “The players did the club proud. I thought they were immense from start to finish and with a bit of luck we could have taken the tie to penalties.

“We have continued our good form. We look a solid team and the players are playing very well individually.

“Against Carlisle, that was more like the real Huddersfield Town. We have scored 74 goals in all competitions now and that shows the attacking threat we have.”

Ian Bennett should be fit for Saturday’s game at home to Oldham Athletic after being rested with a groin injury in Tuesday’s win over Carlisle.

Nick Colgan came in for the former Sheffield United goalkeeper and impressed on his debut to keep a clean sheet.
