The Barclays Premier League’s big guns managed to avoid each another in the draw for the fifth round of the Capital One Cup.

The pick of the bunch sees the sole remaining Championship club in Leicester at home to City, who have not lifted the trophy since 1976 when they beat Newcastle United 2-1.

It was the Magpies they despatched in the fourth round last night, albeit requiring extra-time goals from strikers Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko at St James’ Park.

Goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon keeping a clean sheet will also have kept the pressure on England No 1 Joe Hart, who made another high-profile error on Sunday against Chelsea.

Newcastle probably had the better of things over 90 minutes last night, but they could not break the deadlock and instead left
St James’ Park digesting an unflattering defeat.

As for City’s cross-city rivals United, David Moyes’s side head to the Britannia Stadium for a clash with Stoke City in one of three all-Premier League ties.

United only just edged out former hero Mark Hughes’s side 3-2 in the league at Old Trafford on Saturday, and the Potters will fancy their chances of revenge on home soil.

Chelsea, beaten semi-finalists last year, are also on the road, but will have to wait until next Wednesday to discover their opponents.

Jose Mourinho’s side, convincing 2-0 winners at Arsenal on Tuesday, will head to either Sunderland or Southampton.

The final match-up is an all-London affair, but only just after Spurs beat Hull City 8-7 on penalties at White Hart Lane last night.

Andre Villas-Boas has at least been rewarded with another home tie as they take on the Hammers, albeit with memories certain to be fresh following a shock 3-0 home league defeat to Sam Allardyce’s side on October 6.

Capital One Cup, 5th round draw: Leicester City v Manchester City, Stoke v Manchester United, Sunderland/Southampton v Chelsea, Tottenham v West Ham.

Ties to be played week commencing December 16.
