But although Simon Grayson's side have taken just six points from their last six league games, the Leeds manager insists his side remain on course for automatic promotion.

After the last-gasp leveller Grayson said: "I'm always happy to get a point, it's another point nearer to where we want to get to and coming to a place like this is difficult.

"We know what it's all about. We have got 17 games left and with three home games coming up hopefully it's going to bring some points to us.

"If you can keep picking up points between now and the end of the season you are not going to be too far from where you want to be."

"This showed what the players are about, they have got the character and desire to keep going right to the end and to never get beat," he said.

But Leeds should not have needed a stoppage-time goal as they dominated the first half against an in-form Orient.

Gary McSheffrey went close three times in the opening 24 minutes and Bradley Johnson sent a free-kick just wide as Leeds forced nine corners in the process.

Orient improved after the break and Leeds almost paid the price when defender Tamika Mkandawire sent a header looping past Casper Ankergren seven minutes from time.

Grayson said: "I'm disappointed we did not win because I thought that we were outstanding, especially in the first half.

"I don't know how the scoreline remained 0-0 at half-time, we had so much possession, so many shots on target."
