Leyton Orient v Bradford City: Clarke says City’s Cup stars must shine again at Orient

CLINCHING promotion via the play-offs at Wembley less than three months after making a historic appearance in the League Cup final was testament to the durability of Phil Parkinson’s class of 2012-13.

It did not mean, however, that the Bantams mastered the art of following up a memorable Cup victory by claiming three points from their next league fixture.

In fact, City drew four and lost three of the seven league outings that followed those never-to-be forgotten nights against Arsenal, Aston Villa et al.

This season has been a similar tale with only one of the club’s three Cup upsets against teams from a higher division being immediately followed by a league victory – meaning three points tonight at Orient would be timely.

“We all enjoyed the aftermath, but now it is back to the league,” said Billy Clarke, one of several heroes in Sunday’s FA Cup humbling of Sunderland.

“We have prepared as well as we did for Sunderland. Orient is a massive game for us. By the time we kick-off, some teams will have played three games since we beat MK Dons in our last match.

“It means we will have games in hand on our rivals. That is what I mean when I say it is massive.

“The good thing is we can take our last two results into the fixture. We will work as hard as we did against Sunderland. It is important we don’t drop a level for Orient, especially after such a high of beating Sunderland. But we will prepare well and go at them.”

He added: “I kept a close eye on results and Oldham and Chesterfield losing last weekend was decent for us, even though Sheffield United won at Bristol City.
