Lincoln City 1 Rotherham United 2: Le Fondre on target for Millers

ROTHERHAM have got their automatic promotion challenge back on track, having learned a lesson the hard way.

"We lost twice to the bottom side (Darlington) and it proved there are no easy games in this division," said Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore.

"Lincoln haven't been having a great time but we knew it would not be easy and our attitude was spot on to make sure we wouldn't be caught out.

"Even though they had 10 men for a long time, Lincoln gave everything but we dealt with it very well and had it not been for their goalkeeper we would have won comfortably," he added.

The Imps were reduced to 10 men after just 13 minutes when central defender Moses Swaibu was sent off for bringing down Adam Le Fondre, who was bearing down on goal.

Le Fondre dispatched the spot-kick for his 22nd goal of the season and only the heroics of Lincoln goalkeeper Rob Burch prevented further goals before half-time for Kevin Ellison and the outstanding central midfield man Danny Harrison.

The closest Lincoln came was in a big let-off for Rotherham when a cracking long-range effort from midfielder Brian Gilmour struck a post.

Burch saved again from Harrison but a second goal for Rotherham always looked on the cards and midfielder Gary Roberts got it on 65 minutes after linking up with striker Tom Pope.

Burch reserved his best moment to deny Le Fondre another goal before Lincoln gave themselves late hope when substitute Steve Lennon netted with 13 minutes to go.

"We should have been out of sight by the time they scored but we did play some excellent football at times," added manager Moore.

Rotherham, who are just three points behind third-placed Bury with two games in hand, entertain Torquay on Friday.
