Loan signing is on the cards as Leeds look to bolster defence

LEEDS UNITED are hoping to make a loan signing before tomorrow's trip to Scunthorpe United with a defender believed to be top of Simon Grayson's wish list.

The Elland Road club have lost four of their last five games, conceding 15 goals in the process.

Grayson is understood to have pinpointed a couple of targets with former Bradford City defender Andy O'Brien being strongly linked with a return to West Yorkshire.

The Harrogate-born centre-half has fallen out of favour at Bolton Wanderers and could bring some much-needed stability to a struggling backline.

Grayson was also in the crowd as Newcastle United were beaten 4-0 at home by Arsenal in the Carling Cup on Wednesday with sources in the North East suggesting 20-year-old Hungarian defender Thomas Kadar could be of interest to the Leeds chief.

With the Magpies now out of the Carling Cup, manager Chris Hughton is believed to be keen on Kadar going out on loan to build up some experience for himself.

Grayson, understandably, is refusing to reveal the identity of a possible transfer target but has confirmed a new face is likely before the weekend.

He said: "It may be that we have a new player in this weekend. I am not saying who or which position.

"But we need players who can come straight into the team."

Leeds, meanwhile, have sold out their 6,200 allocation for the away game at Coventry City a week tomorrow.
