On his appointment, Lockwood, 34, who replaces Mark Bower, told the YEP: “It is really positive for me to be named as manager and everyone is learning every day and trying to improve and I am no different to anyone.

“You have to work extremely hard and I have known that ever since I have been a player, but it has been good and I have enjoyed it and there’s a lot of good people around me which is very important and I would like to thank everybody who has helped me out and hopefully they will continue to do that.

“We will keep putting the effort in and improving.”

Meanwhile, former Lions boss Bower has taken over the reins at Conference North strugglers Bradford Park Avenue.
