Lynch buzzing as Town start to evolve

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN goal hero Joel Lynch admits his sublime strike on Tuesday night has provided a bit of payback for his derby miss at the weekend, writes Leon Wobschall.

The left-sided centre-half netted an absolute peach in Town’s 2-1 home victory over Charlton, his second goal against the Addicks in a fortnight.

Lynch says the 65th-minute cracker from 35 yards, which put the hosts 2-0 up, was the best of his career.

Lynch, who hit the angle of the post and bar from close range late on in Saturday’s derby stalemate with Doncaster Rovers, said: “The lads have a go at me quite a lot for shooting in training. Luckily, I’ve done it in a game and it’s gone in.

“I connected really well. I was a bit disappointed not getting the winning goal in the last minute on Saturday, so this made up for it – I am happy.

“I went forward in the first half and had a run and rushed a shot when I took it on.

“With the goal, I just thought I would hit it and I am buzzing really.”

Mark Robins’s side have lost just two of their last 12 games in all competitions.

Lynch, for one, feels the side are evolving nicely, with the 3-5-2 formation employed for most of this season so far something that he feels suits him right down to the ground. “We are quite steady at the minute. We are not losing or getting battered in games and doing well.

“We are still learning the formation and can only get better. I really enjoy playing with the three at the back and it works quite well.”

Another positive for Town was the sight of Swansea City loanee Jazz Richards making his belated debut after receiving international clearance just over five hours before kick-off.

Richards and Robins were furious at delays in processing his paperwork by Fifa after his signing last week and for Richards, who came off the bench to replace Sean Scannell with 20 minutes to go, it is a case of making up for lost time.

Richards, 22, who has joined on a 93-day loan, said: “It was frustrating because I think I was in the starting line-up to play (against Doncaster) and then, obviously, the manager told me the clearance hadn’t come through.

“Luckily, it has now come through and it was good to get a few minutes in.”

Town are assessing the fitness of Jonathan Hogg, who came off with a dead leg.
