Caretaker Danny Schofield was dealt a blow when Christopher Schindler was deemed unavailable after falling ill before kick-off.

The hosts took an early lead when former Leeds striker Matt Smith knocked down for Mahoney, who dribbled past two opponents before rifling into the bottom corner.

Town created their first genuine opportunity after the drinks break, but Alex Pritchard’s close-range header was blocked and Andy King’s shot from the edge of the area flew off target.

But a slick move on 36 minutes resulted in the equaliser.
