Mansfield Town 5 York City 0: Night to forget as City are demolished

YORK CITY, reduced to 10 men after 34 minutes when Jonathan Smith was sent off, were never in the game at Field Mill and couldn't complain about the final scoreline.

Their former player Adam Smith put Mansfield ahead and from that point there was never any question about the result with Mansfield running riot in the second half and York managing only one shot on target in the entire 90 minutes.

Paul Connor thundered a left-foot shot against Michael Ingham's right-hand post in the 12th minute before the York goaleeper then pounced to deny Gary Mills.

The home side eventually went ahead after 21 minutes when Adam Smith, who was with York last season, lashed a rising shot into the roof of the net.

York suffered a further blow after 34 minutes when Jonathan Smith, earlier cautioned for a foul on Kyle Nix, repeated the offence and was immediately shown the red card.

Mansfield went further ahead after 55 minutes when Steven Istead crossed on the right and Rob Duffy nipped in to score.

It was 3-0 on 64 minutes when Adam Smith's shot was parried by Ingham for Connor to follow up and shoot into the empty net.

York's woes increased on 68 minutes when Luke Medley exchanged passes with Nix for Nix to shoot past Ingham's left hand. Mansfield completed a nap hand in added time when Medley shook off Dave McGurk's challenge before beating Ingham with a low shot.
