A busy day of activity at Oakwell yesterday saw Turnbull and Scunthorpe United marksman Sam Winnall both pen two and three-year deals at the club respectively, following on from the signing of free-agent midfielder James Bailey on Tuesday.

Winnall, who hit 23 goals for the Iron last term, arrives for an undisclosed fee and will bolster the Reds goalscoring options following the exit of last season’s top-scorer Chris O’Grady.

The Reds remain in the market for another recognised central striker along with a right back and right-sided midfielder.

Mansford said: “In James, Sam and Ross, we believe we have three Championship performers who are going to dominate League One next season.”

Specifically on Turnbull, he added: “Ross was top of our list produced by Mark Crossley in consultation with the management staff and we took it to the board and they approved it.

“We believe we have recruited the best keeper in League One and someone who has been a consummate performer at levels above this league.

“Quite a few bigger clubs were also in for Turnbull, who wanted him as a No 2.”
