MATCH CENTRE Doncaster Rovers 2 West Brom 3: Baggies promoted to Premier League

West Brom secured promotion back to the Barclays Premier League with victory at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Rovers made one change from Easter Monday's game at Blackpool, James Coppinger failing a late fitness test and Jordon Mutch coming in as his replacement.

Graham Dorrans fired a glorious free-kick past Neil Sullivan to give the Baggies the lead after 30 minutes before Chris Brunt seized on a poor defensive header to double their advantage in first-half injury time.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas responded for Doncaster in the 47th minute but Roman Bednar's 73rd-minute strike re-established West Brom's lead.

James Hayter did pull one back for Rovers but it was not enough to prevent the visitors securing their return to the top flight after just one season in the Coca-Cola Championship.

Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll paid tribute to Di Matteo's team, but felt his side, who were prompted by excellent displays from Hayter and John Oster, should have got something from the game.

He said: "They and Newcastle have been the outstanding teams in the division. They are Premier League clubs and everyone has wanted to beat them.

"Over the course of the season they have been more consistent than anyone else and you have to give them a lot of credit.

"Today, they had shots and we were two goals down, they have quality where it matters and there is not much you can do about that.

"It was a great free-kick and a schoolboy error from someone as experienced as James Chambers. But out application was first class as it is difficult when you are 2-0 down at half-time."
