MATCH CENTRE: Hull stun Man City, Barnsley edge out Watford, Owls, Rovers, Millers and Bantams lose, while Blades, Leeds and Town all settle for a point

HULL CITY stunned big-spending Manchester City when goals from Jozy Altidore and George Boateng were enough to lift them out of the Premier League drop zone with a 2-1 win.

The only other Yorkshire club in the top four divisions to enjoy success were Barnsley, who edged out Watford 1-0 at Oakwell.

Sheffield United hit a late equaliser to salvage a point at home to erby County, although Steel City rivals Wednesday went down 2-1 at second-placed Nottingham Forest. Doncaster lost 2-1 at home to Reading in the division's evening kick-off.

In League One, Leeds United were denied all three points at Hartleppol following a late equaliser by the home side. It was a similar tale at the Gapharm Stadium where Huddersfield were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Carlisle.

Bradford succumbed 1-0 at home to Bury, while strugglers Darlington put a further dent in Rotherham United's promotion plans with a 2-0 win.

York City came away from their Blue Square Premier trip to Kettering with a 1-0 win.

Hull City 2 Manchester City 1 - FT

GEORGE BOATENG brought Hull City's run of 10 games without a win to a stunning end against Manchester City.

The Tigers, who had last claimed three points in November when beating Everton 3-2 at the KC Stadium, gave their survival hopes a huge boost by beating the Champions League hopefuls.

After Jozy Altidore had given Hull a first half lead, George Boateng doubled their advantage with a stinging drive on 54 minutes.

Shay Given could do nothing to prevent the 20-yard effort from the veteran midfielder flying into his net.

At that stage, the Blues looked dead and buried only to be given a lifeline just before the hour mark.

A Gareth Barry corner caused panic in Hull defence, allowing Kolo Toure to back-heel the ball into the path of Emmanuel Adebayor who converted from six yards out

Championship

Barnsley 1 Watford 0 - FT

Emil Halfredsson's goal was enough to give Barnsley a valuable home win over Watford despite having Ryan Shotton dismissed for a bad challenge on Lloyd Doyley.

Halfredsson struck in the 55th minute to earn all three points for Mark Robins's side.

Doncaster Rovers 1 Reading 2

Reading secured back-to-back victories for the first time this season as they beat Doncaster 2-1 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Shane Long and Brian Howard had the visitors two goals ahead before Billy Sharp pulled one back from the penalty spot nine minutes from time.

Nottingham Forest 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1 - FT

Dexter Blackstock bagged a double as Nottingham Forest overcame Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the City Ground.

Blackstock opened the scoring with a 24th-minute penalty after Darren Purse was mharsley adjudged to have handled in the area.

Luke Varney levelled for Wednesday in the 73rd minute but Blackstock struck again with 10 minutes remaining.

Sheffield United 1 Derby County 1 - FT

Lee Williamson's last-minute equaliser saw Sheffield United secure a 1-1 draw against Derby at Bramall Lane.

Former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage had fired the Rams ahead after 17 minutes but Williamson struck late to deny Nigel Clough's side the points.

League One

Hartlepool 2 Leeds United 2 - FT

Leeds missed out on the chance to go back to the top of Coca-Cola League One as they were held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Hartlepool.

Luciano Becchio gave Leeds a 1-0 lead at the break but Adam Boyd brought the home side level after 70 minutes.

Becchio then put United back in front, only for Anthony Sweeney to head home in the final minute.

League leaders Norwich were beaten 2-1 at Millwall.

Huddersfield Town 1 Carlisle United 1 - FT

Huddersfield and Town had to settle for just the one point after Ben Marshall scored a late equaliser for Carlisle United at the Galpharm Stadium.

Anthony Pilkington grabbed the opener for Town in the 50th minute and it wasn't until the 83rd minute that Marshall pounced.

League Two

Bradford City 0 Bury 1 - FT

Andy Morrell netted for Bury as they claimed a 1-0 win at Bradford City that cemented their place in the automatic promotion places, while putting a further dent in Bradford's dwindling play-off hopes.

The result marked a sixth home defeat of the season for Stuart McCall's side.

Darlington 2 Rotherham United 0 - FT

GOALS from Tadgh Purcell and Gareth Waite further dented Rotherham United's automatic promotion hopes as bottom-of-the-table Darlington won 2-0.

It marked a significant double for Darlington after they won 2-1 at Rotherham last month. With Notts County winning 1-0 at Grimsby, Rotherham dropped to fifth in the League Two table.

Blue Square Premier

Kettering Town 0 York City 1 - FT

A 16th-minute strike from Michael Rankine proved enough to secure all three points for York City at Kettering Town.

The result strengthened the Minstermen's grip on third spot in the table and they are now just a point off top spot after Stevenage lost to Tamworth and Oxford were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Kidderminster.
