Michael Sollbauer on his future at Barnsley FC

INFLUENTIAL Barnsley defender Michael Sollbauer has stressed that his future remains very much at Oakwell - and scotched at any talk that Gerhard Struber's recent exit might unsettle him.

Brought in to add some badly-needed experience to the Reds' backline in January by his compatriot Struber - who worked with him at their previous club Wolfsberger AC - Sollbauer has been a beacon of consistency at the back for the Championship outfit.

Struber's exit coincided with another January signing from Austria - Marcel Ritzmaier - returning to his homeland on loan after joining Rapid Vienna.

But Sollbauer, 30, who signed a two-and-a-half deal when he signed, is firmly happy with the Reds.

Speaking in an interview in Barnsley's matchday programme, Sollbauer said: "I am completely happy to be here.

"I am happy to be in Barnsley; this is my tram and where I want to be.

"It's been a crazy first year here, but I feel a huge part of the team and hope that continues.

"But of course, with Gerhard gone and Marcel also leaving, I'm losing a few German speakers!

"But this is normal as I say. This is my own football journey and I am really happy at Oakwell.

"I have big goals I'd like to achieve here and others' decisions will not affect my personal situation."
