Middlesborough: Mowbray hails loan capture of McEachran

MIDDLESBROUGH manager Tony Mowbray has hailed the loan capture of Chelsea’s Josh McEachran after the Teessiders beat off rival interest, including from the Premier League.

The England Under-21 midfielder, 19, has joined on a season-long loan and could make his debut in tonight’s Championship home opener against Burnley.

Wigan Athletic were interested in signing the left-footed schemer, who signed a five-year deal with Chelsea last year, along with the likes of Blackburn and Bolton.

Mowbray said: “He’s a very technical footballer, very creative, with a big future in the English game – I can see him being a top, top player in a few years.

“The competition was stiff, but the boy felt as though he wanted to come and play some football and I think we can help him do that. He went to Swansea last year and didn’t play.

“I’d like to think he and Chelsea appreciate the reputation we have for playing a certain way – they feel he is going to come to a team that will pass the ball.”

Mowbray confirmed the season-long deal has a January break clause for both sides.
