Millwall v Middlesbrough - Neil Warnock determined to give Boro fans something to smile about in midst of SkyBet Championship relegation scrap

A QUICK scan of YouTube shows that the New Den was the scene of one of Neil Warnock’s finest hours in management.

A documentary filmed during his time at Sheffield United which was simply called Warnock included famous footage of a stirring against-the-odds 2-1 victory at Millwall in December 2004.

The Blades played for the entire second half with centre-half Phil Jagielka in goal after Paddy Kenny and notorious Lions defender Kevin Muscat were dismissed following an interval fracas.

Warnock lauded his side’s character and strength in adversity in the away dressing room after his side came from behind to clinch an unlikely win. How he would love to see some of those credentials today with his Middlesbrough side in desperate need of a lift.

After witnessing a victory in his first game in charge at Stoke, the veteran manager has been given ample evidence as to why Boro are in grave danger of suffering their first relegation to the third tier since 1985-86.

Sunday’s poor home defeat to QPR – Boro are without a win at the Riverside since Boxing Day – will probably mean, if anything, they will not be unhappy to be on the road as Warnock seeks to co-ordinate some sort of response.

“I’m sure the players are looking at the table and all know how important it is that the club stays in the Championship,” Warnock said.

“With what is going off around the country, it is not a happy time.

“But I have got to put smiles on their faces in the next five games.”
