Nottingham Forest v Middlesbrough – Jonny Howson return may provide timely boost for Boro

AS much as Middlesbrough’s prospects may revolve around what they do in the transfer market this month, it might also be governed by when key players come back into the fray.

Boro’s fortunes are precariously placed ahead of tonight’s visit to a venue which has not proved overly hospitable over the years.

Maintain some decent form and they have every chance of being in the top-six shake-up come the business end of the season.

If results drop, then Boro – who face an in-form Forest side this evening – are likely to fall away towards the mid-table ether.

As it stands on the incoming front, Neil Warnock anticipates that he does not expect any new strikers to come in to add another option to a forward pool who have struggled for goals this season.

A successful move for a long-time target in winger Yannick Bolaise also appears by no means certain, according to Warnock.

On the flip side, striker Ashley Fletcher – out with a serious hamstring problem since September – is nearing the end of his rehabilitation and could return by the end of the month and be akin to a new signing for Warnock.
