Wycombe v Middlesbrough - Time for Neil Warnock’s men to stand tall on their travels

MIDDLESBROUGH will break new ground when they visit Adams Park for the first time in the league today, but Neil Warnock is more concerned with avoiding the old habits of 2020.

Warnock’s restoration work has taken Boro within close proximity of the top six, yet it has not been without its imperfections with his side having struggled on the road at times against direct opponents.

Boro were outmuscled at Stoke last month and struggled against Sheffield Wednesday on a testing surface on Tuesday and now face a Wycombe side who are renowned for their physical qualities.

Warnock said: “It is a tough game in a similar situation (to Tuesday) and we have got to deal with it. Both teams play the same style and it is just a matter of whether we can cope and eliminate spells where we concede goals.

“We’re going to have to roll our sleeves up as Gareth Ainsworth has done a fabulous job there.”

Meanwhile, Warnock insists he is not losing any sleep over the situation with winger Duncan Watmore, who has yet to agree terms on a new deal after being tabled an offer by the club.

He added: “I don’t worry about it. I just get on with it and what will be, will be. I have done all I can do. But you’ve got more to worry about than just one player as a manager. I’ve got to worry about 20 – well, I wish it was 20! It is more like 18 at the minute.

“In Duncan’s case, I don’t think money is important with the last couple of years he’s had.

“He should be wanting to stay for the right reasons and he’s a sensible lad, so I do not think he will let people put him off altogether.”
