Pollitt, previously on the coaching staff at Wigan, enjoyed two highly successful spells at Rotherham and was a big part of the side who established themselves in the second tier under Ronnie Moore in the early noughties.

Pollitt, who worked with Warne’s assistant John Breckin during his time with the Millers, will return to the home dugout for Saturday’s fixture against Norwich City.

Warne said: “I’m buzzing to have him here. He’s a big character, he’s infectious, funny and energetic - everything I like in my staff.

“He’s part of the fabric of this club and has spent as many years here as me. He’s a big part of the club’s history and I hope he’ll be a big part of the future.

“He sounded excited when I spoke to him today. We’re close and he’s been out of football for about eight weeks or so and is keen to get back in.”
