Millers' stadium plans get go-ahead

The Millers' planning permission application for their new stadium in Rotherham has been approved by the council.

The Millers have been playing their home games at the nearby Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield since 2008 after they were unable to strike a deal to remain at Millmoor which had been their home since 1907.

However, their time in Sheffield could now soon be coming to an end after the go-ahead was given for a new stadium to be situated on the old Guest and Chrimes Foundry site in Rotherham town centre, land which the club's chairman Tony Stewart bought in January this year.

Stewart said: "We are delighted that the council have supported the application, for what is a significant regeneration scheme in Rotherham which is proceeding at a pace despite the worst recession in 30 years.

"This represents another significant step towards our goal of bringing the Millers back home to Rotherham.

"We`re all determined to make Rotherham United a football club that everyone in the town can not only be proud of but will feel a part of too."
