Millwall v Huddersfield Town: Family man Miller plots pursuit of happiness

The 27-year-old joined from Blackpool just 48 hours or so 
after Nahki Wells had limped out of the West Yorkshire derby loss to Leeds United to leave just James Vaughan as a recognised forward in the Terriers’ 
squad.

Wells, who had suffered a bruised foot in the early exchanges against Leeds, may well be fit for today’s crucial trip to Millwall, a side who occupy the third and final relegation place.

But manager Chris Powell wanted to bring in a striker any way, which is how Miller swapped life at the foot of the Championship for a club with aspirations of finishing in the top half.

He said: “There seems to be a great team spirit here, along with a lot of good players.

“I am a very family-orientated person and after my first day of training here on Tuesday, my family commented on how much happier I appeared.

“It is a great environment. You always play your best football in that environment and, hopefully, it will bring the best out of me.”

Miller’s goalscoring record this season mirrors that of the team he has just left, Blackpool being the second-lowest goalscorers in the division behind Sheffield Wednesday.

The powerfully-built striker, who started his career as an 
apprentice at Manchester City before going on to play for West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, has just two goals to his name in 24 appearances.

He added: “I am going to get my head down and work as hard as I possibly can. We will work hard as a team and if the wins and points come, I will get what I deserve.

“There is pressure for everyone in football, but I have been in the Championship for a good number of years now and I know what it is about.

“I am always pressuring myself to be the best I can be. I have a goals target to achieve between now and the end of the season, but I will keep that to myself.”
