MK Dons 0-2 Huddersfield Town: Terriers in pole position after first leg

With Sheffield United having held Stevenage in the away leg of their own semi-final on Friday night to raise hopes of the Blades progressing, the White Rose county’s focus switched to the Terriers and they delivered in fine style.

Goals from Jordan Rhodes and Jack Hunt mean even Town’s notoriously awful home record in the play-offs – they have failed to win in seven attempts at either the Galpharm Stadium or Leeds Road - will surely not prevent Simon Grayson’s side reaching the May 26 final.

A deft header from Rhodes on 32 minutes meant the visitors went in ahead at the break.

And after Lee Novak had squandered a golden chance to add a second, Town doubled their advantage 17 minutes from time.

Neat interplay between Hunt and Higginbotham opened the Dons defence up before the full-back supplied a finish that 39-goal Rhodes would have been proud of.

The return leg in Huddersfield takes place on Tuesday night, 24 hours after the Blades will look to edge past Stevenage at Bramall Lane to keep alive the prospect of an all-White Rose final at Wembley.
