Mowbray is impressed by new arrival Martin

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray has made his first summer signing after Malaury Martin agreed a one-year deal.

The 22-year-old French midfielder made his debut in Sunday’s 3-2 friendly victory over Croatian side NK Varazdin after impressing during a trial on Teesside.

“Malaury can do a bit of everything and will be a useful addition to our midfield,” said Mowbray.

“He can pass, tackle and defend and he has a great shot on him, so we will try to utilise his talents.”

Free agent Martin, a former France Under-21 international, spent last season at Blackpool, but injuries did not allow him to make a first-team appearance.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, have signed former Boro midfielder Jonathan Greening from Fulham for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the City Ground where he is reunited with manager Steve McClaren, whom he played under at the Riverside.

Greening moved to Fulham from West Brom last summer after a successful season-long loan there, but found his first-team appearances restricted under Mark Hughes, starting only six Premier League games last season.

He becomes McClaren’s second signing of the summer after Andy Reid returned to the club on a free transfer at the start of this month.
