The 22-year-old full-back has not shrugged off the hamstring injury which has hindered his start to life at Oakwell.

He will now watch Saturday’s visit of Sunderland, with Reds boss Paul Heckingbottom hoping the defender will return to action after the international break.

“His international clearance came through last week,” Heckingbottom confirmed. “We were trying to get hime ready for this weekend - we knew he wasn’t quite right with a hamstring strain when we signed him - but he’s not quite ready.

“He’s been fit and playing, the last couple of games he has been managing his hamstring. When we scanned him, we saw a little tear in there.

“We have been pushing him, and he was desperate to play, but he’s not quite there.

“He will be in over the international break to try and get him fit for the next game.”

Liam Lindsay played 60 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday, but Zeki Fryers, Lloyd Isgrove and Cameron McGeehan are all out injured.

Heckingbottom added: “In September, we start on the 9th and have seven games in three weeks. Lots of travelling too, so we will need everybody.”
