Newport County 4 York City 0: Minstermen need to act quickly

YORK City are interviewing candidates for the vacant manager's post and on Saturday's dismal evidence a decision can not come soon enough.

The club were rocked when Martin Foyle announced his resignation on September 22 and after a win at Tamworth York have scored only one goal and gained one point from four games, leaking seven goals in the process.

The new manager – an announcement is expected this week – has a huge task on his hands as York have slipped to 16th, just two points above the relegation places after gifting Newport, who have not lost at home for 18 months, four goals thanks to appalling defending.

Danny Parslow and Michael Ingham were to blame for the first, Sam Foley heading a sixth-minute opener unchallenged.

Parslow slipped and a big gap opened for Foley to run clear with no defender within 20 yards to hand Foley his second goal. Three attempted clearances failed as Craig Reid hammered in number three and Greg Young's error saw Reid cleverly chip over Ingham for the fourth.

"You can't give a team four goals, which were all down to our mistakes. Newport are flying at home and don't need any encouragement," was caretaker manager and youth coach Steve Torpey's verdict.

Newport County: Garner; Bignot, Todd, Collins, John; Knights (Morgan 73), Rose, Odhiambo, Foley (Henry 73); Reid (Rogers 81), Matthews. Unused substitutes: Thompson, Clough.
