Guiseley moved down to 2nd bottom in the National League table after losing 2-0 to Sutton United.

Two goals conceded and a missed penalty cost Guiseley during the first half and they weren’t able to recover from it.

Manager Paul Cox said “It’s disappointing to lose at home, the way we did, I can’t accept that performance, the book stops with me and I know the improvements that need to be made.”

The visitors who lost for the first time in the league since mid September on Tuesday started brightly, with Craig Dundas forcing Guiseley keeper Jonny Maxted into a smart reflex save.

The next attack brought the first goal as Dundas was found after a corner was headed across goal to him, from five yards out he was well placed and made no mistake with a simple finish.

United weren’t finished with their attacking play and should have doubled their lead when a well worked move led to Nicky Bailey having a shot blocked by a returning Alex Purver who was back from a hamstring injury.

The hosts were handed a big chance when awarded a penalty for an alleged hand ball, Lee Molyneux took it but United keeper Jamie Butler dived the right way and made the save.

Sutton would soon be 2-0 up as a ball over the top found Tom Bolarinwa who got infront of the last defender and flicked it into the net.

The second-half started like the first with Dundas having a chance a ball across the face of goal found the striker, who stretched and just missed the target.

Next up was Kieron Cadogan to test Maxted, as he beat his defender and was one on one but his low drive was well blocked, he would then produce a good run but fired over when well placed.

Efforts from the hosts Mike Fondop and Kevan Hurst were saved quite comfortably by Butler.

The keeper would then tip an Andy Howarth effort onto the post, in what proved to be the only time he was tested from open play, as the visitors got the win and a clean sheet as well.
