Northampton Town 2-0 Bradord City: Hunt injury adds to City's mounting woes

SECOND-half goals by Billy McKay and Newcastle loanee Ben Tozer ensured the Bantams suffered their first defeat at Northampton for 32 years.

The spirit and resolve shown in the 1-0 victory over Gillingham was missing against a Cobblers' side unchanged from the starting line-up which had stunned Liverpool in the Carling Cup after extra-time and penalties three days earlier.

Bantams chief Peter Taylor expected his side to show the stronger stamina in the latter stages and employed a 'holding' strategy but it was Northampton, carried through on adrenaline and a slick passing game, who ended on a high.

Eight minutes after Lee Hendrie had made his second substitute appearance for the Bantams, replacing Louis Moult in the 53rd minute, McKay fired the opener before Tozer netted the second on his home debut.

A clearly shell-shocked Taylor said: "I was amazed we played so poorly after such a good week, both against Gillingham and then in training."

Taylor knows he must work quickly if there is to be an upturn in fortunes at the Don Valley Stadium tomorrow night against Rotherham.

The Bantams will be without injury plagued right-back Lewis Hunt who was substituted after 13 minutes with a damaged knee and who could be out for three months.

Luke Oliver was once again employed as a makeshift target man, while Gareth Evans stayed on the bench.

City's best effort saw Moult's 14th-minute snapshot beaten away by Chris Dunn.
