BARNSLEY have opened the new season by picking up a point on the road at Nottingham Forest, writes Ian Appleyard.

New manager Keith Hill started with five of his new signings and opted for a 4-1-4-1 formation.

It frustrated the home side, Nottingham Forest, for long periods but acheived its desired result.

Neither side created many clear cut opportunites although Barnsley’s summer signing Craig Davies might have done better with his head at key times.

Both sides attempted to play good football yet defenders were nearly always on top.

Former England manager Steve McClaren, on his return to domestic football with Forest, heard muted jeers from the home supporters at the final whistle
