Notts County 0 Huddersfield Town 3: Pilkington at the double

HUDDERSFIELD Town manager Lee Clark saw his side make a great start against Notts County with an attacking show to be proud of at Meadow Lane.

Two cool finishes from Anthony Pilkington in either half and a poacher's strike from Jordan Rhodes set them on their way to a comfortable win in front of 3,161 travelling Town fans.

Five of Clark's nine new signings appeared in the starting line-up with Nottingham Forest loanee Joe Garner particularly impressive. He spurned a great opportunity to open the scoring, fluffing a one-on-one, but he soon atoned, crossing for Rhodes to flick in No 2 from six yards on 35 minutes.

Just three minutes earlier, Pilkington had crashed a drive into the roof of the net from an acute angle to give the visitors the advantage.

Town never looked back and Alex Smithies was barely troubled in goal. They coped impressively, too, with the aerial assault of County strikers Lee Hughes and Ben Burgess.

Liam Chilvers drove a rebound into the area from a corner on the stroke of half-time but Garner made the block.

Only Hughes's 18-yard lob shot on the hour-mark saw County go close.

Pilkington sealed the win on 72 minutes, driving home a right-foot shot from 16 yards into the left-hand corner after Joey Gudjonsson's short free-kick had caught the home side napping.
