Notts County 2 Huddersfield Town 2: Clark is left reeling as Town are pegged back

HUDDERSFIELD’s automatic promotion hopes were dented after they squandered a two-goal lead at Meadow Lane.

The Terriers were cruising to what would have been only their fifth away win of the season.

But two goals in the space of six second-half minutes weren’t enough for Lee Clark’s misfiring side as they allowed the Magpies to snatch a point.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t hold on for the victory, we should have put the game to bed when we had a two-goal lead,” said Clark.

Having lost their last four matches, it was no wonder the home fans were happy at the final whistle after goals from Jeff Hughes and Lee Hughes saw the Magpies shock the visitors late on.

Gary Roberts had given the Terriers a 52nd-minute lead with a close-range header, before Jordan Rhodes doubled Huddersfield’s advantage soon after with another simple header. It was Rhodes’s 20th goal of the season and his seventh goal in his last four matches.

But Jeff Hughes pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute after Tom Clarke had hauled down Alan Sheehan.

The contest was all square when striker Lee Hughes found the top right corner with a sweet strike which left Huddersfield goalkeeper Ian Bennett no chance.

Jeff Hughes then nearly won it for the home side, but his powerful strike five minutes from time was well-blocked by Bennett.
