Owls fans back Mandaric

SHEFFIELD Wednesday fans group Wednesdayite, which controls a 10 per cent stake in the club, have confirmed their support for Milan Mandaric's takeover at Hillsborough.

In a statement released this morning, Wednesdayite said: "It is clear that the Milan Mandaric bid to purchase Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Ltd offers the best and only realistic opportunity to see the Owls survive the short term difficulties and build for the future.

"As the owners of 10 per cent of the shares in SWFC plc, we have been asked to agree an undertaking to support the resolution that SWFC plc should sell the shares in Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited to Mr Mandaric's Trust at a forthcoming extraordinary general meeting (EGM).

"In view of the very short timescale, we have been unable to carry out a postal ballot but we have polled those members (making up over 85 per cent of our membership) who have an email contact.

"At the close of the poll, a resounding 97.9 per cent voted in favour of Wednesdayite signing the required agreement to support the resolution, 0.7 per cent against and 1.4 per cent abstaining.

"Therefore, on behalf of Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Society, we have signed the written undertaking to support Mr. Mandaric's offer at the EGM of SWFC plc which will be called shortly.

"We now look forward to working closely with the club and with all Owls fans, to support the efforts to secure the long term future of the club and to help it to attain success at the highest possible level of the football ladder."

The EGM is set to be held on Tuesday, December 14.
