The club have confirmed that Warne, assistant John Breckin and coach Matt Hamshaw will remain in charge for the Millers’ three holiday fixtures, with an update on their search for a full-time manager expected early next month.

Warne, who has stressed that he does not want the job on a permanent basis, is happy to continue holding the fort, with the prospect raised that it may be until May – although circumstances could change.

Warne said: “I am well aware the chairman is pleased with what I am doing and what the staff and players are doing.

“The chairman wants me to continue until further notice. He has insinuated the fact (that) he would like me to have it until the end of the season, but I am aware of how football is; it takes one person to phone the chairman up that he likes the look of.

“I know how football works, but I have got a good relationship with the chairman, we are both honest men and I will keep ticking along.”

Warne has confirmed that discussions have been held with new head of recruitment Jamie Johnson about potential new recruits in January. Johnson has served out his notice with Brighton, where he worked as their European scouting manager.

He has also worked at Derby, Millwall, Tottenham and Sunderland.
