Pearson blasts 'shocking' Hull City

HULL CITY manager Nigel Pearson has labelled his side's performance at Burnley as 'shocking'.

Pearson, whose Hull City side had not conceded in 279 minutes of Championship football before Tuesday night, said of his side's 4-0 drubbing at Burnley: "It was a shocking performance after we'd kept three clean sheets prior and had looked harder to beat.

"It's very disappointing. They didn't have to work hard enough for their goals. We didn't stop crosses, didn't track runners. I'm not happy about the performance but it's my team and my responsibility."

It was a case of deja vu for Doncaster Rovers chief Sean O'Driscoll after their 2-1 defeat at Coventry City.

He said: "I can't fault the performance but we want to move it on and turn performances like that into wins.

"I was here last season saying exactly the same thing and I have said it so many times over the last 12 months. It's getting a bit tiresome but there is nothing you can do about it."

After being sunk 3-0 at Reading on Saturday, Mark Robins was much happier with Barnsley's performance in their goalless draw at Scunthorpe.

"It's a good point, it's a clean sheet and it's a step forward," said Robins.

"We're still a bit naive with the two young ones in the centre of midfield, with Diego (Arismendi) and Butts (Jacob Butterfield).

Sometimes they can just go and leave their responsibilities.

"But we know they're a good side here. We know it is a difficult place to come and play and for us it was a step forward – both a step forward on Saturday and our performance here last year."

Gordon Strachan was mystified after his Middlesbrough side slumped to yet another away defeat, 3-1 at Derby County, to leave them languishing in 19th place.

Strachan said: "I look at the players and I think 'can they try harder?', but I think physically they are trying.

"Sometimes they actually try too hard and play themselves out of position and leave some gaps."

Lee Clark was left bemused after an impressive performance from his Huddersfield Town side yielded nothing as Town were beaten 3-0 by Rochdale.

"It was probably our best performance and people who weren't there will probably think I'm going crazy.

"Points are what matters, not performances – so I'm bitterly disappointed."
