Pete Wild bullish over FC Halifax Town’s prospects as Solihull Moors game is postponed

The Shaymen manager has been delighted with how his side have gone about their business in the early part of the campaign, despite winning just one of their first six league games.

Halifax have proven a tough nut to crack and although they were beaten 1-0 by Wealdstone on Tuesday night, they did play most of the game with 10 men and finished the contest with only nine players.

Wild himself was red carded on the touchline but insisted there are plenty of positives to take from his side’s performances this term.

Halifax have picked up six points from six games while conceding just four goals. They have only scored four goals of their own but Wild believes they will soon start being more clinical.

“I think we have been very solid. We are tough to play against,” he said.

“We are well organised and hard to break down and attacking wise we have been creating a lot of chances in games.

“The bit that’s missing is putting the ball into the back of the net. If that is the bit that is missing then we are not far off.

“I feel we are just half an inch short of being a very good side.

“When it gels I think we are going to be some team to watch.”

Wild continued: “It is easy to look at the league and results but we have only played six games.

“It is better to start looking at things after 20 to 25 games. We are a new side who have been put together.

“We are playing some really good stuff and have played our opening games without our two strikers who we bought in.

“Now our strikers are back, we are hopeful that last little bit we have been missing –putting the ball back in the net – will be there.”

The Shaymen were due to face Solihull Moors this afternoon but that fixture has been postponed after a member of Solihull’s first-team squad testing positive for Covid-19.

“Solihull Moors can confirm that a member of the first team has tested positive for Covid-19,” read a club statement.

“All backroom staff and players across the first team will self-isolate in line with public health guidance.

“Our next three fixtures against FC Halifax Town Torquay United and Weymouth have all been postponed and will be rescheduled.”

It means Halifax will not return to action until Tuesday night when they face Notts County, in a game that has been rearranged due to a previous Covid-19 outbreak at County.

Halifax were set to be without a handful of players tomorrow due to a Covid-19 outbreak of their own two weeks ago but those squad members will be eligible to face Notts County on Tuesday night.

Wild added: “By Monday morning we should be back up to full numbers which is really promising.”
