Peterborough 3 Barnsley 4: We got away with it, admits Hill after Reds clinch late triumph

Barnsley boss Keith Hill felt his side had “got away with it” after they secured their third consecutive npower Championship victory with a nail-biting 4-3 win at Peterborough.

The Tykes threw away a 3-0 lead at London Road as Peterborough scored three times in six minutes to level the scores, before Craig Davies bagged a late decider.

Hill said: “I am thrilled to have won and to have played so well for 65 minutes of the game, but finished feeling we had got away with it – and but for goalkeeper Luke Steele in the last 25 minutes we would have lost.

“With a three-goal lead we should have been managing the game better especially against a side showing the unbelievable creativity of Peterborough.

“We have to learn not to underestimate opponents as you can never legislate how teams will come back.”

Barnsley broke the deadlock after 17 minutes but Joe Lewis, making a first appearance of the campaign in the home goal, was unlucky to concede when Jim O’Brien’s long-range strike took a wicked deflection of Gaby Zakuani.

Barnsley captain Jacob Butterfield sent a 20-yard drive soaring past Lewis into the top corner before Portuguese striker Ricardo Vaz Te claimed his side’s third with a 54th-minute drive from 25 yards.

George Boyd finally gave Posh fans something to shout about, squeezing in a 64th-minute shot from Lee Tomlin’s centre and Ryan Bennett stormed forward to grab a second four minutes later.

The fightback was completed with a close-range finish by Lee Frecklington. Yet even this heroic comeback was not enough, Barnsley grabbing victory with Butterfield setting up Davis for a 78th-minute decider.
