Plymouth 2 Huddersfield Town 1: Huddersfield fail to deal with Argyle's direct approach

HUDDERSFIELD Town manager Lee Clark has called for his side to go on another winning run in League One after his side's three-match victory roll was ended at Plymouth.

Clark said: "I think generally that it was not a bad performance, we created some decent chances but we cannot have aspirations of being top two if we are not going to get a run of victories.

"And by run of victories I mean five and six on the bounce. So we have to start again next week against Walsall."

Clark put Town's defeat down to poor defending against Argyle's route one approach for both goals.

Plymouth top scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips took his season's tally to seven goals with both home goals.

Wright-Phillips – revelling in his role as an out-and-out striker this season – latched on to a Rory Fallon flick to open the scoring in the 16th minute.

Town levelled within three minutes as impressive winger Graham Carey sent over a brilliant cross from the left that opposite winger Anthony Pilkington finished with aplomb.

Town may well have increased their lead when striker Lee Novak broke into the box and wrong-footed marker Reda Johnson, however the Town forward fired over.

Fallon had a headed effort ruled out in the 54th minute with referee Russell signalling for a push on marker Antony Kay.

Town boss Clark was forced to change his line-up in the 64th minute when Novak hobbled off injured and Argyle regained the lead two minutes later when keeper David Button's downfield clearance was helped on by Fallon and into the path of Wright-Phillips who beat the offside trap to calmly slide the ball past advancing goalkeeper Bennett.

Clark fumed: "I am certainly not happy with the two goals that we have given away.

"They were very simple: goalkeeper to Rory Fallon, headed on, and then the third touch in the back of the net. Both goals were like that and it was very poor.

"We could have defended better for both goals.

"Wright-Phillips would have had a third if my keeper had not made a good save."

Ahead of the game against Walsall, Clark will wait on the fitness of Novak (hamstring) but may be forced to recall on-loan Plymouth midfielder Damien Johnson.
