Plymouth Argyle v Sheffield Wednesday: Irvine eager to put boot in old pal Reid

SHEFFIELD Wednesday manager Alan Irvine will put friendship to one side today against Peter Reid's Plymouth Argyle.

The pair played together in Everton's midfield in the early Eighties but lock horns for the first time as rival managers.

Plymouth have not won since the opening day of the season and the Owls are looking to avoid a third consecutive defeat.

"I have known Peter a long time, he is a very experienced manager and he will be trying to turn things around at Plymouth because of the way results have gone so far," said Irvine.

Reid, who took charge at Home Park this summer after a spell on Stoke City's backroom staff, has borrowed the services of former Plymouth manager Bobby Saxton from Sunderland this week.

Saxton, 67, has been involved on the training field and will attend today's game but Reid insists that the move is only temporary.
