Port Vale v Bradford City: Flynn backs Hanson to add to goal haul

BRADFORD City striker James Hanson has been tipped for a bright future in the game by team-mate Michael Flynn.

Hanson, 22, was working for a supermarket and playing part-time for Guiseley just over a year ago but has scored 10 goals in his first full season as a professional footballer.

Flynn, who is set to partner Hanson in attack tonight against Port Vale, said: "There's definitely going to be a few clubs watching him now.

"Targetmen are hard to come by and his size and ability in the air will get him noticed."

Hanson, 6ft 4ins, signed a two-year deal with the Bantams last summer after impressing former manager Stuart McCall on trial.

"James has got a lot to learn, coming from non-league, but scoring 10 goals in his first season is a good achievement – and he'll get more," added Flynn.

Bradford have collected maximum points from their last four visits to Port Vale without even conceding a goal.

Although they have won three of the last four games under new manager Peter Taylor, they are 12 points adrift of the League Two play-off zone with 13 games to play.

Port Vale were beaten 3-1 at home by Northampton on Saturday, continuing the trend of inconsistency which defender Gareth Owen admits is a source of much frustration.

He said: "There are two ways of looking at it. After a defeat, we have bounced back to get the win – or you can look at it and say we can't string two wins together. Nobody is more frustrated than the players because we can't really put our fingers on what has been going wrong."

Last six games: Port Vale WLWLWL, Bradford DLWWLW.
