Preece woe sees Button arrive

Barnsley last night signed Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper David Button on an emergency loan deal.

The 23-year-old goes straight into the squad for tonight’s trip to Crystal Palace.

He has signed on an emergency loan deal until April 15, a month that could see him feature in six games for the Reds.

The Tottenham youth graduate has represented England at various youth levels.

He spent time on loan at Doncaster Rovers earlier this season and even played against Keith Hill’s side. Hill has moved to fill the void left by David Preece, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a fractured wrist.

Meanwhile, Hill – whose side have not won for six matches – paid tribute to Bolton’s stricken midfielder Fabrice Muamba, who collapsed during last Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Tottenham.

“I think what happened at the weekend puts everything into perspective in the football world,” said the Barnsley manager.

“I think there should be more done for continual screening just to try and prevent what happened at the weekend. We’ve got to do everything we possibly can. Hopefully, Fabrice makes a full recovery.”
