Preston NE v Barnsley: O'Connor returns to bolster Tykes' attack

Success in away games has been rare for Barnsley over the last nine months, but they return tonight to a ground where they actually have something positive to draw on.

Mark Robins's side won 4-1 at Deepdale on February 2, but a measure of how poor they have been on their travels is highlighted by the fact that they have won only once away from home since, and that came just three weeks later at Cardiff.

Barnsley have not won on the road for 14 games and have failed to score in their last four. The return of Scotland international Garry O'Connor on a month's loan is timely then as they look to put distance between themselves and the bottom three.

The Birmingham City striker scored one goal in four games while on loan at Oakwell earlier this season and goes straight into the squad. Barnsley's Paul Hayes is not allowed to play against his parent club, likewise Iain Hume will not play for Preston.

The Reds are still without on-loan defender Matt Hill due to a foot injury. Bobby Hassell and Luke Potter are set to continue in defence.

Last six games: Preston North End DLLWLD, Barnsley LWLLDL.

Referee: O Langford (West Midlands).

Last time: Preston North End 1 Barnsley 4; February 2, 2010; Championship.

Former Holland international Edgar Davids has left Crystal Palace by mutual consent after less than three months with the club. The 37-year-old signed for Palace on a pay-as-you-play deal in August but had been limited to just seven appearances before leaving the club yesterday.

Davids said: "I have decided that my journey as a player at Palace has come to an end.

"I want to thank all the people who supported me and gave me one of the greatest experiences of my life."
