Fourth hosts fifth at Deepdale on Tuesday with Preston having lost just once in 11 League games and the Millers on a run of six wins and a draw from their last seven.

Three points separate the two teams but Millers boss Evans believes the onus is on opposite number Simon Grayson and Preston to take the game to Rotherham.

“We’ve got two teams next to each other in the table that and fighting and hungry for a play-off place,” said Evans during Monday morning’s pre-match press conference.

“We go there to take on a good side, good players and a very experienced manager who knows what it takes to win promotion from this division.

“He’s assembled not only a talented squad, but also a good squad.

“Preston are a good club and we all felt for that club last week with the passing of Tom Finney, a great man.

“This has all the hallmarks and ingredients of a good game.

“They go into the game in good form but so do we. It’s an exciting game on paper.

“As the home team, with their resources and expectation levels, the onus will be on them to attack us.”

Rotherham will be without striker Alex Revell who needed stitches in an eye injury sustained during Saturday’s win at Carlisle United.

“We’re not a one-man team here, we never will be,” said Evans. “If Alex is out, he’s out, we’ve got others to come in.”
