Promotion fight not over - insists Grayson

Huddersfield Town manager Simon Grayson believes the club’s chances of promotion are still alive following their 3-1 victory at Leyton Orient last night.

The win moved them to within two points of Sheffield Wednesday and five of Sheffield United, who occupy the sought-after second automatic promotion spot in League One.

“Don’t write us off yet,” said Grayson.

“As a match is wasn’t a spectacle, and we certainly didn’t play as well as we can do.

“Our defence of the ball wasn’t as good as we would have liked it to have been in the first half but we have won the match.”

Grayson added the win was an important result after dropping three points at the weekend.

“It was important we bounced back after the disappointment of losing at Carlisle on Saturday, and we did just that,” he said.

“At this stage of the season it is all about getting the three points and winning matches and it obviously gives us a boost. We haven’t lost too many games this season but when we have we’ve always responded positively from it.

“We know we can play better but our confidence levels will have been boosted by another victory. We worked hard for the win.”

Orient went ahead on 14 minutes with an 18-yard strike by Matt Spring. But the visitors levelled through a Jimmy Smith own goal four minutes later.

Jordan Rhodes secured the three points for Huddersfield and took his season’s tally to 37 with two goals in added time at the end of each half.

“Obviously Jordan has done that many times this year. He’s a goalscorer,” said Grayson.

Huddersfield Town now face a crunch tie against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Grayson said: “Now all our focus is on a huge game against Sheffield Wednesday, and anything is still possible for any of the teams in the promotion mix.”
