Promotion is priority over records for Clark

HISTORY beckons for Huddersfield Town but Lee Clark is more concerned with keeping hold of an automatic promotion place.

The Terriers host Notts County knowing that avoiding defeat will be enough set a new Football League record for unbeaten games.

Nottingham Forest’s feat of not losing in 42 matches was matched by Town a fortnight ago when they drew 1-1 at home to Walsall.

Huddersfield manager Clark said: “We don’t talk about the run, we have never talked about it really.

“The most important thing is to get the three points on a regular basis to get our points total higher and take us where we want to be.

“In football, people talk about an average of two points a game being needed and that is what we are looking at.

“We are ahead of that target at the moment and the next three points will push us on.

“The main objective for us is to get promoted and if that means we can do great things like breaking records then that is great for us. But that is not our objective – our objective is to get enough points to win promotion.

“Don’t mistake that for not being proud of what we have done already.

“It is something that will stay with us forever and it is something that when it is all over for me as manager, the staff and the players will sit down with their children and grandchildren and tell them about it.”

Clark, whose side’s last league defeat came at Southampton last year, is expected to make wholesale changes to the side beaten in the FA Cup by Swindon Town a week ago.
